Along with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick is a Sacrament of Healing. This sacrament is given to those who are ill and in need of spiritual or physical healing. The oil that is used is called the Oil of the Sick, which is pressed from olives and blessed by the bishop.
Jesus never turned anyone away when they asked for healing, even those who were labeled "Untouchable." In the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, we meet Christ the Physician. He heals us in our sin and if it is God's Will, physical healing may happen as well.
This Sacrament is not just reserved for those who are dying from physical illness or old age. It can also be administered to those who are about to undergo a serious operation, those who suffer serious mental illness, and other reasons.
If you would like to receive Anointing of the Sick or have questions about it, please call the Parish Office and ask for a priest (515-295-3435).
